The black one is a piece of obsidiana (kind of vulcanic glass) collected at Lake Naivasha area, Kenya; the other (unknown) was found at a beach in southern Portugal.
I have a piece of obsidiana sitting on my book case too ( I think you and I have a lot of objects in our houses that are the same!!!) I collect rocks from everywhere I go but that other piece is amazing!!! I have never seen anything like it - do you have any idea what it is!!!
